How We Evaluate Coffee and Tea Gear

Beanwoven is a research-led publication. We do not run a physical test lab, and we do not claim to. What we do is read widely, compare carefully, and be explicit about where a claim comes from — so you can weigh it yourself.

What our recommendations are built on

  • Manufacturer specifications — the measurable claims a maker publishes, treated as claims rather than findings.
  • Independent published testing — laboratory results, standards-body reports, and established review outlets that do run controlled tests.
  • Aggregated owner feedback — patterns across large numbers of verified purchasers, which surface durability and long-run problems that a short test never catches.
  • Direct comparison — putting products in the same category side by side on specification, price, and reported experience.

What we do not do

We do not test products in our own facility. When you read a recommendation here, it reflects the weight of published evidence and owner reports — not a measurement we took ourselves.

If a claim in an article comes from a specific source, we say so. If the evidence is thin or contested, we say that too, rather than manufacturing confidence.

How a recommendation gets made

  1. Define the job. What is the product actually for, and who is it for?
  2. Gather the field. Assemble the realistic options at each price point.
  3. Compare on evidence. Specifications, independent testing, and owner-reported reliability.
  4. Pick for a use case, not a leaderboard. The best option for a beginner is usually not the best option overall, and we would rather say which is which.
  5. Revisit. Products change, get discontinued, and get superseded. Older recommendations are updated when the field moves.
